Last Door Recovery Society has been providing addiction treatment and support services since 1984. Last Door has two core programs, Last Door Youth Program serving 14 - 18 year olds, and Last Door Adult Program serving males 19 and over. Last Door also offers several adjunct programs including Last Door Family Program, to help families recover from the effects of addiction in their lives, and our ongoing open ended free to access alumni programs. Our core philosophy of providing abstinence supported, evidence based, quality addiction treatment has remained intact over the years. The level and types of services have increased over the years as we respond to community needs. Our programs continue to grow ever year with the support of people like yourself! Last Door’s mission is the provision of supportive, therapeutic environments where individuals and families experiencing problematic substance use can get support and guidance while restoring their mental, spiritual, physical and emotional health. Last Door serves over 400 individuals and thousands of collaterals per year, we help people to overcome addiction and restore themselves to a positive state of health. We are organizers of the largest addiction recovery festival in the world (Recovery Day BC), we host Talk Recovery Radio, we are the organizers of Recovery Capital Conference – a contemporary Canada-wide addiction recovery education symposium. Luckily these beautiful places where one can surf, explore and connect with nature still exist, all around the world. Alas, we also see such places disappearing and developing rapidly. Walla believes we can counter this trend, by creating nature reserves around surf spots. Reserves that benefit local communities, provide a safe haven for plants, animals and humans alike. Places where one can still experience magic. PROJECT GOAL Our goal is to protect the last stand of rainforest at the coast of Ecuador and turn it into a community based reserve and surf destination. So that we create a safe haven for animals and plants and we can keep enjoying this magical place! WHY 98 % of the coastal forests of Ecuador have been logged. A little untouched piece of paradise at the beach remained, because there was no road – until now. Together with the local community we are taking action. HOW Join us to buy the forest and secure it in a local trust. The trust will be managed by the community, a local nature organization and Walla. The next stage is to create small scale surf tourism, profits will go to sustaining the reserve.

The health care system in Venezuela is declining rapidly. Each day, the press denounces the failing state of public hospitals. Increasingly, the health care crisis and the shortage of medicine and food have plagued the country. The Rafael Malpica hospital, located in Guacara (Valencia, Venezuela) is providing only rice for their patients. Many other hospitals are facing the same situation. Proteins are never included in their diet… This project will feed vulnerable adults and children in different hospitals.

Due to the current political and economic situation plaguing Venezuela, large amounts of zoo animals are dying or are malnourished. Many of these zoos have had their animals become endangered due to starvation and lack of medical care. There is not enough money or resources to feed and care for animals in these zoos.

Entire families are forced to leave their homes with only what they can carry on their backs. The long journey across the Colombian border has become very common these days. The majority of Venezuelan refugees, who make it into Colombia, are sleeping in refugee camps, unemployed and without enough food. This fund will support Venezuelan refugees. We will work with other organizations in the Colombia–Venezuela border who are committed to providing assistance and support to those in need.


Dog owners in Venezuela have been forced to abandon their pets because pet food has become overwhelmingly expensive. Also, vaccines and treatments that pets need are scarce or inaccessible. There is a proliferation of diseases that have affected homeless pets such as scabies and rabies resulting in a high health risk to humane society. Through this project, we will be providing decent dog food and canine treatments in order to prevent the most common infectious diseases.
